I spent almost 9yrs in US, and I will be boarding the flight this Friday, not a lot of net worth but decent, single and not married. There is a slight disappointment that I didn't spend 10yrs here but in the long run it doesn't matter. I am still young and will find a job and continue working in India. I think what I earned is good enough, I don't have a desire for luxury/expensive things, no pun intended. I did not want to live the horrible life on H1B, I kept changing cities/apartments/roommates and experienced all the headaches that come with it, atleast I can call myself settled in India. A piece of advice: it's important to DECIDE, rather than just talking and discussing with others, you know yourself the best, others give you various opinions and you just get confused. AMA. #engineering #software #India #R2I TC: 🥜 NW: 🥜(6.5cr INR), invested across US and India, I will move majority to India
Please move this to India topic.
Ok
Nice that you saved that much! Congrats 🎉
👋🏻 👋🏻 good luck for your future endeavors. Dun keep any regrets
What are your plans in india for next career move? You already have job offer? If not, are you open for fast paced companys with bad wlb or strictly going for decent wlb. Also, have you decided on which city to opt for or open for anything with good offer or based on family location. Have been in your place and totally understand the move.
I don't have anything in hand, I will take a break for 1-2months and start searching, I'm open to bad wlb and Indian companies, I will have help in India and I can focus more on work, but I'm not open to toxic workplaces. I am mostly going to look in 2 cities Hyd or Blg.
Thanks for answering. Would love to know what do you consider as toxic places. Amazon might be one of them? I am contemplating move(not from usa) and trying to understand the options having same priorities as you mentioned.
Did you spend all 9 years on H1b? If yes, then plan to spend one more year. You will become eligible for social security. If your majority years were on student visa then you are good. All the best! Do revisit this post after a year or so and let us know if it was actually worth it.
Moving to India is always the best option. Only thing is you should ensure that you contributed to social security tax for ten years to be eligible for SSN money after 62 as you are very close to ten years. Non citizens can get this even if living outside of US, once you become eligible
Just saw ibm responded with the same 😁
Amazing savings. Possible as you seem to be single. Did you include 401k in that?
@OP, DM me if you need any suggestions or have questions
It is indeed disappointing when you hear younger generation talking of sending their children abroad so as to avoid them living in a toxic politically divided society. As a veteran one starts to think "was it worth it"? Is this the country we sacrificed our prime years for ? Sad.
I hear exact opposite. Probably you're around anti nationals
Good that you made a decision, I know atleast a dozen people who have been saying they want to move back to India, hearing it since many many years. It's a trap, very few people have the courage to break it. All the dollars you earn doesn't matter unless they are converted to INR. Welcome back !!
Thank you!
