Piercings and tattoos

Although we want to be inclusive of everyone including people with tattoos, you are disconnected from reality if you get yourself all these piercing, horns and tattoos and expect to be hired at companies with a customer facing role. https://www.businessinsider.com/tattoos-shouldnt-be-important-in-job-interviews-2024-4 I truly believe people have choice of what they do with their bodies but that also comes with the understanding that you are closing your doors on certain jobs forever. Personality, culture and role fit is relevant.

They don’t get hired. It’s an unspoken rule.

Cisco thbeardguy OP Apr 28

Why is it unspoken though... Cant we draw a line on whats acceptable for job roles and still be inclusive of 99% of tattooers?

Fred Hutch patlilulli Apr 28

Because it actively acknowledges the prejudice that people have against tattooed folks. Personally I couldn’t care less about all this. Even if I’m a customer. When I used to source suppliers for Amazon, one of the suppliers had an MD who had a bunch of tattoos and even an OF account. I literally couldn’t care because their work was impeccable and helped me get promoted.

It depends on the company. The company is catering to the alt lifestyle it’s fine. Also lots of FAANG people have piercings and tattoos although not to that extreme. A lot of the people who do extreme body modification are aware they are limiting themselves out of certain roles and don’t care. Updated: she was applying to TJ Maxx? lol the literal requirements of TJ Maxx are show up on time in a somewhat sober state, and don’t steal. Literally you don’t need a look when cleaning shit out of the dressing rooms.

Im not against some tattoos and basic piercings (like earrings/very subtle nose studs). But if you get your tongue split and face tattoos and expect to be a part of corporate society you’re an idiot…

She applied for a retail role at TJ Maxx

Cisco thbeardguy OP Apr 28

Imagine TJ Maxx hiring someone who has "F you" tatooed visibly on their body. They are literally not fit for a customer facing role.

Having tattoos or piercings is just the sign of being an idiot, that's why they don't get hired.

Cisco thbeardguy OP Apr 28

Criticize the characteristic, not the person. Getting tattoos is a personal choice, but to not realize that when you get these extreme tattoos and body modifications you cant expect to get customer facing jobs is definitely idiotic. This person is embarrassing themselves by complaining that their tattoos were the reason they didnt get selected. If they were the hiring manager for TJ Maxx, they wouldn't hire a person like herself too.

lol what a dumbass comment. I have three very visible tattoos and it’s never been an issue

Face tattoos are an open declaration that you make terrible life choices. You are self selecting out of many customer facing jobs and you know it. They advertise your contempt for the social mores that are critical to many professional and retail environments. You don't get to wipe dog shit on your face then cry fowl when people complain about the smell.

I’m covered in tattoos except my face but always wear full sleeve shirts or a suit when I go into office to cover it up. People rarely know I have them and that being said getting face tattoos is so dumb for work. It doesn’t make things better if it’s customer facing role too, makes it very unprofessional. Only person I know who has face tattoos and has 0 effect is this game designer at PlayStation
