Stay in Canada or try US

Family with kids. Pretty established. Is it worth exploring US as a SWE? We both are engineers of Indian origin but citizens here. US green card is no where in near future. While the weather and money are great in US, we’re concerned about all the chaos it can bring in our lives in terms of restructuring our finances and managing our assets here. We are happy here. Just didn’t want to miss out anything that’s even better than what we have. Especially for kids. Any parents who are in similar situation or already made the transition that can pitch in? You can work on TN visa and make some more money

Meta dsknuths Apr 23

If you're happy, stay.

Weather isn’t all that better in the majority of the US. I suggest to stay for your mental health

If you are making 320k and you’re happy in Canada, it would not be worth it. Stay.

Took a similar decision recently with family, decided to stay in Canada even though the money is way better. We are living comfortable and safe here, so didn’t want to introduce chaos (including asset management)There is more to life than money

How is amazon in canada? Are you in toronto or Vancity?

Decide with your family, not Blinders

We are in a similar situation and decided to stay as well. Letting kids go to the same school for a longer period of time is worth a lot more than earning a few thousands.

I’m actually doing the reverse. Moving family to Canada because of the chaos here. Also, no safety net here makes it a stressor for parents and families. Making USD in Canada can’t hurt

Which company pays in USD?

Adobe NaXJ72 Apr 23

Unless your family has major medical expenses or a full on disability, always move to the US! It's a much better choice career-wise and Canada is a dead end country. If I didn't have a family with medical issues, I would.move in a heartbeat.

Same boat and thinking to move in TN for a couple of years.. Can't you apply for L1A via Apple and try the eb1-c route if in a functional manager role?

Apple wise&dumb OP Apr 23

I’m an engineer. So eb1-c won’t workout for me. No?

Egen 2uehei2gye Apr 23

Not necessarily.. if you have 10+ yrs of exp and could pivot to a managerial or functional role for 1 year even without official reportees , then you might be eligible for eb1-c
