The reality is always Indian

Recruiter is always white When you study the company and its leadership it’s a diverse team of white black latino etc. Cross functional team you interview with is diverse as well Hiring manager might be Indian Once you get hired you get put on a team that is 80% Indian

Google fXAW44 Apr 19

I can't understand why people care about race so much

American Express AnxietyGPT OP Apr 19

When 80% of your team is balantly one ethnicity and speak the same language, it becomes an issue

Rackspace StiffJobs Apr 19

What OP is saying is 1,000% true. But it is more complex and deep than just blame a skin color. Is more about culture and discipline, in my opinion.

SmartThings qBCG67 Apr 19

You are racist.

Rackspace StiffJobs Apr 19

Racism in tech? Maybe, but not really. Tech workers really don't care about appearences, we value intelligence and creativity. But it's true that rampant corp capitalism offshored lots of jobs to save money. Or abused the H1B1 program, importing too much talent instead of developing homegrown. Inadvertently creating a culture clash and animosity in americans companies. People notice when all of a sudden, everyone around, including leadership, is indian and Is no secret indians in leadership roles will vouch for their own.

Amazon spiderfish Apr 19

It annoys me sometimes that all the companies that just laid off a bunch of American citizens then go and hire a bunch of H1B people. I thought they had to prove that no American citizen is qualified for the job before they can hire H1Bs? The weird thing is: it's always 99% male, and 90% H1Bs and 80% of those are Indian. As an American citizen it's really weird how many American companies do this.

Elsevier cloudizar Apr 19

Maybe Americans love their money more than they love their people.

Rackspace StiffJobs Apr 19

I hear you. I hope one day someone writes a story about what happened to a company I worked for. How during the America First BS time. They blatantly laid off roles or backfield them in India like there was no tomorrow. They created this work atmosphere. In the past, we had amazing smart indian peers, but sadly, this got diluted. We noticed something was off when the hired talent was less qualified than expected. Rumors spread something fishy was happening back in India with their hiring practices, like no one was paying attention new hires with zero experience being coached to pass the interviews in great numbers.

Google Akira88 Apr 19

What companies are you talking about that have a diverse leadership of white, black, Latino?

Oracle ocimahesh Apr 19

The ones who don’t have the Indian ceo

Pure Storage mr__pm Apr 19

Your post is racist. Would you say the same if you are running a business and 80% of your customers are indian? You will gladly take their money. But you want a white team. I think you can switch to a steakhouse job and you ll get a very white team.

Amazon spiderfish Apr 19

So according to most people that talk about diversity in American companies they want proportionally a similar number of each ethnicity and gender that the local population of us citizens has. The local population of us citizens in any US city is most certainly NOT 80% Indian. It's not racist to want more diversity. It's not racist to want proportionally correct diversity. It is racist to hire majority Indians.

Rackspace StiffJobs Apr 19

Feels racist cause of the use of race description. But there is some truth to it. However, I would it worded better. Americans have a very strong culture. It's good for Americans to be exposed to other cultures to adapt to the world. But when this practice goes out of hand, it creates a company culture problem after a specific group outplace Americans too quickly and fast without giving everyone time to adapt and absorb these changes. I think companies have done a terrible job leaving this area unattended. It's no secret inside tech companies, americans workers don't feel comfortable with how much talent import has been made from India versus investing in its homegrown. We have been told the same lie over and over that there isn't enough talent, there for it needs to be brought or offshrore, but reality is there been and always been talent. I feel for indians. However, they are doing whats best for them and their families.

Barclays PLC ozarkAR Apr 19

In a lot of industries there would be one immigrant in an all white team. Far too many women in the industry are in all men's teams. It's a constant reality for some of the demographics.

Axon ashjdsjhd Apr 19

Next level bs. I’ve hardly seen black or Latino people in leadership roles. It’s mostly Whites or Indians. What is a diverse team? If it’s not Indian or East Asians. It’s almost always Europeans.

Airbnb againNow Apr 19

Amazon recruiters are mostly Indian, from my experience.

Amazon owhd1a Apr 19

There is literally no one stopping you from working in a non-H1B sponsoring GC/Citizens only company. They may not pay FAANG TC but there are plenty of them.

Cisco Stock60 Apr 20

I live and work in India and I have never spoken in Hindi at work. You know that India has 28 languages? And everything thinks their language is superior.
