Because our first name can have three to four words and we don't usually get addressed by our last names. We start using initials as a child at school and it sticks.
It's easier to give initials and be done with it. Rather than explain people how to pronounce my name because it's exhausting and I honestly don't care if they can pronounce my name or not.
