Is a game streaming service worth trying out? I don’t really play enough to warrant owning a console or gaming PC outside something like a Switch. But sometimes I think I’d like to play some games for a bit after I put my kids to bed
Depends on your personal tolerance of compression artifacts, lower framerate, and latency. And whether the games you like are heavily impacted by increased latency. I recommend giving Gamepass a try. They often run deals for new subs and it includes a huge game library, so you can see for yourself.
GeForce now was the best for me, also works with ganepass. 1440k great fps, low latency
I always ignored these and decide to do a quick Google search to learn about these things and have to say... What a fucking dystopia.
What's dystopian here? Aren't you using Spotify, Netflix, Steam, Youtube? Everything's digital these days
I'm not too informed about cloud gaming, but at a glance, it's the weird limitations, which gives me the eerie feeling of bait and switch. I can see limited gaming time would keep the network traffic limited in their servers. But what's the rule if you wanna take a break, or let the game running while you afk for a bit? You pay a subscription service even when sometimes months on end you cannot game at all, unlike normal utilities like water and electricity. I think this is the reason why I have never used Spotify or Netflix, but have used steam and YouTube. Dunno man, entire thing feels like it's built on a rug which is ready to be pulled as soon as it has enough people stacked on top of it.
Try the free version of GeForce Now.
Are there time limitations?
I’ve had mixed experiences with Xbox cloud gaming. It used to work great but recently I’ve been having issues with lag that make it super frustrating to play. Considering trying GeForce Now, and if that doesn’t go well I’ll probably just look for a used Xbox
I wanted to try too, but couldn't even play a single minute on Xbox cloud due to queue times.
Nvidia
Yes it’s great, I don’t use my PC desktop anymore, just gaming on my MacBook with GeForce Now. Probably saved more in energy costs running on rig with 1080ti vs paying for the subscription.
Before I was using xcloud for gaming in 1080p. I thought its great. When I recently tried PS5 in 4k 30fps it blew me away. I will go with cloud gaming only when 4k streaming is available !
Xbox cloud works fine for single player games. I didn't have a great time with racing games though, but I was on Wi-Fi at the time. You do need a gamepad though. Get a Xbox controller for ease of compatibility but you can make a dual shock/sense work. Most of the Yakuza games are on game pass. That will hold you off for a while. Look up if this hack works still... Google something like "game pass VPN turkey"
