Cardio burns calories. Calories in < calories burned = weight loss.
Cardio is mostly for heart health, if you love cardio then go for it. If not, srength training with a modest cut in calories & walking is a good place to start. I've had success with Noom's approach to caloric density if you're more of an app person.
May work as a short-term solution, but in the long term, you may want the muscles built from strength exercises to burn the calories for you while you're lying on your couch.
