I barely started my gym journey because I want to lose weight and I've noticed during squats and jumping my knees "hurt." Like it feels uncomfortable but with very minor pain. Does anyone know what it could be, should I be worried?
Check if you have arthritis. A knee x-ray may help to diagnose the issue.
This is what physical therapy is for. It might be simply that your supporting muscles are weak and you need to build those up via more reps/lower intensityā¦ or you could have a legit joint issue like arthritis that should be addressed. Visit a sports medicine doc to get it checked out.
This! I had knee pain and went to a Dr and insisted I needed imaging because something just had to be wrong. Nope. After going to PT she told me I hd weak hip flexors and glutes and gave me some exercise and after doing them for a while, no more knee pain.
Minor pain should not ākillā you?
Goto physical therapy, they should tell you knee strength exercises
Yeah. A few years ago I had knee pain. Went to physical therapy and pain went away. So it may not be serious.
Stretch your quads before and after working out, your muscles could also just be tight and pulling on your knees. Do tibia raises between sets or at the end of your workout to strengthen your knees. If you are overweight you need to buy new shoes more frequently than someone who isnāt, make sure you have good shoes.
Age 40+ thatās normal, if not try the suggestion listed from others
When I was 28 (during covid), I was overweight (94kgs) and had a very sedentary lifestyle. It led to me getting knee pain. I had it until last year. I managed to reduce weight to 81kgs. I worked out with knee caps (helped tremendously) However listen to my golden advice - please walk a lot. I'm not kidding. Whatever knee pain I had, I have zero pain now after I started walking for at least 20 mins a day. I was at a point where I wouldn't even be able to climb stairs. Now I can even run. So listen to me on this.
Every time you work out you are training your muscles. Some pain is natural as your muscles are not used to the current motion you are performing. Eventually they will get used to it and you will move on to the next level of exercise which will again cause some discomfort due to a different set of muscles involved.
Reduce impact if youāre doing exercises with lots of that, like running for example. Elliptical has no impact. Maybe itās also accentuated by weight. You may want to consider swimming until you get a bit lighter. But what they say above about strengthening your muscles can also help. Be gradual, and do a proper warm up. Knees are complex.
This is the answer I was looking for. Lower impact exercises. Swimming is great for this
