A while back, I shared how I was trying to keep up with the avalanche of info on Slack, as a newbie, like from the teams, different groups, specialties, vibes, people, clubs, IT, DMs, you name it. There's just a ton of Slack messages, and no time to read them all. At my last job, things were way more streamlined, and messages were quick and to the point. Who looks after keeping Slack tidy in your org? Any recommendmmendations of how to solve it? I'm asking because I always feel like I'm missing out on stuff, and I'm wondering if it's just me struggling with this. #slack #communications #canva

Mute the non imp channels
How's canva doing?
Ignore it all, except for DMS. Slack is weird
Stripe is the same and it can be overwhelming sensory overload for newbies. My advice? Apply filters for the channels you would like to monitor and mute or put on sleep/delay mode all the rest. Then as you get up to speed on the company, you'll figure out which channels and posters are worth listening to. (Kind of like blind!)
Same here. Slack can get completely out of control because everyone has the ability to create a channel. And people create channels on a whim. At one point I had about 80 active channels with cryptic names. It was hard to keep track of what was happening and impossible to search for information.
I categorize channels to help focus them (called sections in the app), then I mute some channels and have scheduled different times to review the muted channels.
