I recently was put in focus at Amazon. I have applied for disability leave of absence. Have submitted my medical paperwork through my therapist. My start date was today, but the HR portal says pending decision. HR phone person said they will respond in 3 biz days. My question is should I stop working already? Like put out sick on slack etc ? Or should I wait 3 days for decision? Also how should I break this to my mgr? Please help. TC 250k
You can immediately stop working once you submit a request for FMLA. If your case is denied (it won’t be) I think it will count as unpaid leave. You can email your manager, but you don’t need to share ANY confidential information with them. FMLA is all covered by HIPAA. They should be CC’d on the email giving your start/end dates. You can extend FMLA for a pretty long time, but you might lose health coverage if you don’t have a continuous employment Also make sure to file for STDI and PFMLA if you’re in Seattle.
You haven’t said anything to your manager??? Woof. I feel bad for your team. Did you do a transition doc outlining your workstreams and RACI?

If their manager is toxic ok. But either way they should have a transition doc for their team. I have been on the FMLA piece out without TDs and it suuuuuuuucks. Hated that person ever since.
The manager will be happy to hear that you have decided to leave. Stop working for a company that is going to fire you soon. Have no loyalty to these cruel culture and company
