Yelpers, what's it like working there nowadays? How is company morale? Economic outlook? I'm looking to stay in Canada, and I'm targeting Yelp as it's one of the higher paying companies here. Blind tax : 185K tc 6 yoe
They don't have many positions in the US for IT. Dono how morale is now
They did bad by not selling out to Google for $6B Founders must be regretting
When did Google try to acquire them
This is true, it was years ago tho
Seems like the feedback is to not waste my time with Yelp
I think you should still try but its probably a tier2 or 3 faang
We are the next nvidia
Impossible.
State farm checks out
Yelp isn’t hiring much even in Canada, but if you’re hired as IC3 you should clear 200k CAD. As IC4 my TC last year was >300k. Company morale: it’s ok but that’s team dependent. Not great, but not that horrible either. No layoffs in eng since 2020, but they’re trying to push down comp by giving out more cash and less RSU refreshers. Economic outlook: dunno, but all I know is every earnings call the past quarters the company beats expectations. Also ramping up in local services a lot, taking market share from Angi and Thumbtack. So if anything the company is profitable at least.
Thank you for this. How's wlb?
Compared to other companies WLB is probably still better than most. But it’s very team dependent. My rule of thumb is the closer you are to ads, marketing and sales, the worse your WLB becomes. I say Ads cause their on call seems to be a bit active, but that’s understandable as a very high impact org. Arguably, some SRE/infra engs have somewhat of a busy oncall schedule too cause they can be involved in a lot of P0’s. For marketing/sales eng teams, it’s less about oncall and more about having to deal with the politics and tight deadlines that come with the nature of working with sales and marketing. Yelp as a whole is very engineering driven so it’s a bit slow paced, except if you’re in an eng team where your primary customers are sales and marketing folks lol.
Yup my team works close with marketing and sales, it sucks dealing with bs every day but ~200k is not bad TC in Canada for mid level
We don't pay that much anymore. We used to have good refreshers but now only ic4+ (staff) gets refreshers and they are much lower.
Totally. It sucks. What’s worse is the comp letter made it seem like we’re getting more cause they used the stock’s market value to compute our new comps lol.
That's brutal. If they don't give you refreshers, it's like they don't want you there any longer
Dead 😵
Yelp still a good place to work just not hiring much these days
