AI/ML self-learning roadmap ?

How to get started on AI ML for an SWE that’s from different profile (like backend) ? Not because of the current hype but from a future perspective. If AI ML SDE demand grows higher (which seems likely), I’d rather not be too late. And what RAM is needed for working on AI ML projects (on average) ?
