Agressive people in tech

Why are there so many agressive, angry, rude, ready to argue till blood people in tech, especially in sw dev? I have been to bunch of companies and met tons of those people everywhere. Compromise is an unknown word to them and any negativity is like a life potion to them. They absolutely take any joy you might have for your work and it just makes me hate this industry and be a farmer or whatever.

Happens when a bunch of frustrated people with low social skills and general education get highly compensated jobs, finally giving them the proverbial revenge they always sought.

nailed it

General education? Isn't education a waste of time given the high opportunity cost of college? /s

They all think they’re so super smart and always right. Especially SWEs. Inflated egos and narcissists, combined with high pay brings out the worst in people. Also just fyi, as someone who did farming for 5 years (small organic local farms), farmers can be equally as nasty

Do you think you’re better than non organic farmers?

I worked early in career with such two assholes. They where tech cofounders and the CEO was in Australia and he left them all control. Since they did not have anyone above them and they can blackmail CEO by having all the secret keys with them they behave like you described to people they considered as a threat. At the same time they hired their friends and family because others are were not good enough. They also only hired juniors as they where afraid of competition but they also hired people with 1-2 years of experience for doing hard work and then later kicked them out of the company

Hire hyper-focused employees with no social skills and you’re bound to end up working with these people who avoid all eye-contact and lack all empathy

Honestly, Palantir is one of the few places I've worked where almost everyone seems is amiable and there are practically no assholes, and if there are they don't last long (in the Product Development org and non executive levels, at least 🙃). Previous tech companies I worked at: holy fuck it was awful. I had one person launch a vendetta against me, try to destroy everything I worked on. I jumped ship because of them. Blind tax: 465k, >10 yoe

That's interesting given the reputation in the company (I believe you to be clear and even interviewed into the last round there)

agressive people in games are the opposite in real life. Have those aggressive people IRL to play some games to let off steam. I am massively aggressive in games btw.
