I’ve seen white women in PM, TPM, Marketing, Legal, and blah blah blah jobs. BUT rarely have I seen white gals in SWE jobs. There sure are exceptions but there must be some reason they gravitate to non SWE jobs. Anyone have theories? My definition of core tech is DO-er jobs, which in software are done by SWEs / SDEs. Thoughts? SWEs have to do real deterministic work. If it doesn't work ot simply doesn't work. 5+7 is always 12. All other roles, is simply BS non deterministic work. There is no wrong answer and people can simply make it faking it all the way. That's why
Yeah the more i talk to people and think about it , the more i realize some people are really just pattern matching and speaking regurgitated filler non sense from their auto pilot mouth. They don’t have a point, or they can have a point but the point doesn’t matter. In code, however, compiler or interpreter slaps you in the face the second you spit nonsense to it.
Compiler slapping you in the face is heaven for a SWE. It is a easy fix. You know what I mean. The real trouble doesn't lie in compiler syntax issues.
Most white women I know either went into medical or banking. Those are the jobs that American society tries to push them into from a young age.

Because they can get paid similarly without having to deal with working with male SWE every day. The number of women I know who quit programming because of the sexism, harassment, and discrimination is alarming. Why be in a role where jerks with half your qualifications assume you got your job just because you are a woman and treat you as less than. Instead you can run the whole team, plan the project or product and avoid the hostile work environment.
That’s true of all roles but I do see them in non SWE roles
This is why women and other minorities should be fighting against DEI. With DEI, it is rational to assume that a white man is the most qualified, and a gay black Jewish xer/xem is the least qualified.
From my anecdotal personal experience, women have absolutely zero confidence when it comes to activities they are not traditionally expected to be good at. Most female scientist or engineer I met though they were bad at math / programming, and when proven to be very good at it would most of the time say that it is just that everyone else is even worse than themselves. I have a friend who, upon joining one of the most elite scientific university in the world, noticed that she overperformed the other students, then casually concluded that she was bad but the others even worse. It is not humble bragging, they genuinely think that somewhere else there are other people who are really better at it. Also, when programming you are constantly reminded of your own weakness, struggling with infuriating things such as conflicting dependencies, unclear documentation, and your own silly mistakes, which makes it very easy to concluded that you are dumb, and that your overconfident male colleagues are much stronger than you. But usually women don't even reach that point, since at 8 they already think they are bad at math, and the remaining scientific ones go to medicine or biology.
Imposter syndrome, affects all of us.
That's why DEI programmes are needed, thanks for noticing. We need more women in tech indeed.
