Can my spouse travel while h4 and h4 ead renewal are in progress?

I am on h1 and my spouse is on h4 which is expiring soon. We have already filed for extension and it's in progress. Can she travel outside of the country while both h4 and h4ead are in process? What happens if h4 and ead are approved while we are still in India before / after stamping is done? Update: i checked with my lawyer and he says it's ok to travel but i have read conflicting answers from folks. TC:220k
