I am not US citizen but I live in the US. I have investment in stocks at Fidelity. Now, I am going back to my home country and will not keep my US address. Can I keep my Fidelity account and investment? If I sell my stocks a few years later with gain, how much tax I should pay on the gain?
Yes. But fidelity will start withholding 30% of gains for taxes
No, but I can hold onto them for you until you come back
Use my address, we can work a deal 🤡
no US government will seize your investment
If it is 401k, you can leave it. If it is IRA or brokerage, then fidelity may ask you to close and take the cash out once they find out that you are no longer residing in US. They May restrict you from trading/placing orders on stocks as well. It’s probably a liability for them to manage this account as they don’t know where you are.
Can you post your TC?
Jobless, TC=0
Are you leaving because of layoffs? If yes, I am very sorry to hear that and I understand as I am in visa too. Just want to wish you all the best for your future!
