Currently work at zscaler, job is stable but always wanted to work in bigTech. Have an offer from Amazon l6, was excited to get it but now I am scared to join (both pip and layoffs). Have a family as well as on visa. Do you’ll think I should join it for the resume value? I only have panw and zscaler in my resume. Just adding total comp for both in the poll.
Imagine gambling your family's livelihood to prestige chase the PIP factory
For some big tech companies, offers are good for 12 months. If you're getting cold feet, take some time to think about. Do what's right for you and your family. Or better yet, use the amazon offer to negotiate with other companies that aren't as ruthless as Amazon. This is coming from an Amazonian who lasted 4 years, got promoted and then got PIPed out. Best of luck!
That's strange. Was it a bad manager or politics that led to pip? or was your pip justified in your opinion?
To begin with you'd be going from an L7 role to an L6. Obviously the compensation is considerably more, but I don't like how Amazon demotes new people when they join. Besides that, just do a great job the first year and there would be no justification to PIP you. Stay there for one more year if necessary then go somewhere else with the "prestige" that Amazon gives
L6 in Pipazon is very demanding, you need to constantly prove yourself, you will not get time for family
Zscaler has that much as base salary alone?
They are hunting L6/L7s in amazon these days. Stay where u are and let others be PIP fodder.
Ask the metrics for L6 SDE you beat them you're generally safe from PIP. Some exceptions but it's not as bad as it sounds here on blind
What are examples of metrics?
Y'all Amazon PIP Quotas are not by level. There's an army of L4 and L5 pigs who Director feed into the PIP train. Amazon L6 is close to management and hence immune from PIP.
The TC at Zscaler is not too far away from Pipland. I would be in a similar mental state if I were you. Hope you make a good decision.
There’s pip culture at zscaler that I’m not aware of?
He's saying Amazon is Pipland, which it is. I would encourage anyone to try working in big tech, but it's just a different beast from any other type of company and it's not without risk, especially if you're on a visa in this job market. Hope you make the right decision OP.
