At Meta, Goog, ByteDance, etc., are the TC at the same level of PM and SWEs the same? E.g., L6 SWE gets paid the same as L6 PM?
L6 PM gets paid and L6 SDE gets laid….off
Normally, SWEs are paid more for the same level but PMs level up faster assuming both are good at their job. So salaries kind of even out
There's this cool site called levels.fyi check it out
PM earn fraction of SWE
Cope
Yes, PM need lots of copium
67% says SWE gets paid more. 21% the same. It's fairly clear that SWE gets paid more and PM at best gets paid the same. Thanks Blind Folks!
In my experience L2 PM pay = L1 SWE pay at tech companies, though it’s not a hard rule. At finance companies, it’s generally 1:1, though sometimes SWEs will still make a little more.
In my opinion SWE has the higher floor in general but the PM career path has a higher ceiling. PMs are more likely to evolve into your Execs because their role (atleast in tech) requires them have a solid understanding of both business and technical sides. It’s not uncommon for a PM in a tech company to have a CS background and some are Ex-SWEs. As far as level pay, I think it will vary per org but PMs don’t usually make significant less, if at all, from what I have seen. The Levels FYI suggestion may be your best bet to do comparisons.
For level-1 yes. But dumdums can become L6/L7 PMs so it ends up evening out
Pm make less and are few and far between. In my org many teams don’t even have a pm and the ones that do like mine it’s like a 1 to 60 or 70 swe ratio.
Incorrect; the pay bands don’t even overlap.
I don't know where you are in Amazon. In aws l6 pmt-es and l7 pmt-es are same band as sr.sde and pe
