Well title is clickbait. Meta point, I pay $120 a year for being an unlimited member. DoorDash also adds markup, charges from restaurants, adds other fees. However pretty much everytime now my order is not accepted for a long long time. I chat with CS to assign driver manually and then get the order. I had a suspicion that it is because I don’t pay tip. Then after some digging I realize that DoorDash has base pay of ~$2.50 - $4 for almost all instances. So unless a customer pays tip the pay for drivers are super unattractive. They don’t accept. So basically DoorDash is charging so much from all corners, yet their drivers basically depend on customer tip. If more customers are fedup of DoorDash charges and stops paying tip, DoorDash is busted. However I less concerned about DoorDash sustainability, more concerned about how a tech company in good conscience can allow paying such pay for 20-40 mins of end to end work. Not counting gas, depreciation etc the labor charge is way below minimum wage.
Can drivers see how much tip they’ll get before agreeing to take on your delivery?
I believe they just see a rough estimate of what they will make from the order.
Can we add tip later on if delivery was on time ?
Lol whoever invents a drone delivery network is gna make all these companies super easy to deliver. Then the gig economy people are screwed
And make seagulls very happy 😈
Please tip your driver and stop being so cheap. I think it's a great service, although I'm sure profitability is a problem. Do you not tip for whole foods delivery either?
Tipping is dumb
Refusing to tip is a stupid hill to die on. The market expects tipping and is structured around tipping. You are not going to change the market by refusing to tip but you are going to make a low-income person’s day much worse
Aren’t you worried that drivers might spit to your food if you don’t tip?
I pay for Dashpass as well and I’ve never had any issues with delivery. With that said, I always add a tip. Delivery is an industry where tipping is expected, like a waitress. If you frequented a restaurant and didn’t tip ever you’d experience this treatment too. This seems like a problem related to your account and not generalizable. If Doordash ends up being unsuccessful, I doubt the issue of $2.50-$4.00 would be an issue if most customers tip.
The tips that door dash suggests are excessive though. Typically tip is in the 15-20% range, but I just checked, for a $14.95 order (before taxes and fees), the suggested tip is $4 (26.7%).
@Argo! I never see you on here! I've wondered what it's like at companies like Argo and Pachyderm for a while -- how's life at Argo!?
Why should I tip my hard earned money because the corporation decides not to pay.
This! I would rather they increase the prices at restaurants to pay employees a living wage than expect us to pay tips.
Why do you pay 120 for something that is free for chase cards? Also tip if you want good service. Restaurant workers make less than min wage. You can dislike the system but don't take it out on the workers.
You need to go to China for a better delivery experience. All US delivery companies like door dash or Uber eat are equally bad
Yes it is known that they won’t accept low payment. Go to reddit Doordashdrivers. That is where they discuss their strategies.
