I work in Expedia (Austin) as a Senior Engineer and very close to being a Staff Engineer. Unfortunately it won't happen because Expedia changed its roles recently and did away with "Satff" titles. I am currently making $140 in base, $10-15 worth of RSU's every year and 10% annual bonus. Since the attrition has been high in my group and I share big lead responsibilities in my current project, my manager (and director) promised me that I would get a salary hike that I would have gone if I were to get a promotion. It would be around 15-20% increase they said. I am currently in the process of interviewing with other companies as I wanted to have some back up in case I don't get a hike as I was told. But I wanted to check if my compensation would still be on part with the current market should they increase it by 20%. I am hearing from a lot of people that the Austin tech market has grown a lot and seen a big jump in tech salaries.
That seems low for "staff", but I have no idea what Expedia pays.
Google is hiring in Austin and you’d make way more than that ($200k+) even if you get hired at mid-level (L4) Indeed and later stage startups should get you around $180k depending on what level you come in at
Every time I've looked Google wasn't hiring SWE in Austin, just a few titles like "Application Developer" which seems like a second class citizen with roughly the same skill set.
Look again. There was a lot of growth in 2020 and that will continue next year. These are SWE roles (10x increase in 2020)
