I'm working as a backend SDE at an Expedia-like company where I joined as a new grad 6 months ago. I mainly integrate, develop and maintain SOAP and REST APIs. My day to day tasks are parsing, filtering data and CRUD. I feel like I'm not doing that much and not gaining transferable skills. Requesting advice from senior devs here TC: 🥜
As a backend dev to develop more skills the next step will be to get involved in system design and building up domain knowledge in one or more fields in the backend (database optimization, streaming and so on)
Welcome to the real world. It’s this boring work that most companies need.
Getting good projects is hard everywhere, most of the day to day work is junk. Keep grinding LC and side projects till the economy improves and then switch. Good work is never guaranteed but good TC can be. Edit: square in their comment just below offers solid advice. Although, I think you are still very new so probably still have a lot of learning opportunities even within your team/org.
Thanks. Any suggestions for side projects?
There is an infinite amount of things to learn. I would start in an area that most interests you.
