Workday vs Oath offer

Got these 2 offers last week. YOE: 3yrs Oath: Position: Software Dev Engineer 1 Team: Yahoo Mail: Big data/ User record sync Location: Sunnyvale, CA Base: 135k Joining bonus: 10k Year end Bonus: 10% Relocation: up to 20k (only as needed unlike the other offer) Equity: 60k for 3 years with 1/3 vested every year TC: 135+10+13+20(equity for 1st year)=178k (Not including the relocation since it isn’t a lump sum payment) Workday: Position: Software Development Engineer P3 Team: Prism Analytics Location: San Mateo, CA Base: 130k Joining bonus: 10k Year end Bonus: N/A Relocation: 15k will be added to 1st salary Equity: 120k for 4 years. 25% vested in the first year and then quarterly over 3 years TC:130+10+15+30(equity for 1st year)=185k (Not sure this is the best way to calculate the total compensation, but this is how the recruiter calculated it with the relocation amount) Which is a better offer based on how the companies are doing, stability, culture, location and work involved in these teams?

Why do you care about the 1st year compensation only? I’d look at the 2nd and 3rd year of compensation to make a final decision (purely based on TC’s). Also, do they offer refreshers? Oath annual bonus is variable... like RSU’s of course Oath: 135+20+(10% if 135= 13.5) = 168.5 Workday: 130+30= 160

Yes workday off is offering refreshers on their RSUs every year I think the same applies for Oath’s annual bonus

I hear great things about culture and opportunity at workday. The impression I get is that they will help you grow in whatever direction you want (management, data science, etc) from what I hear from friends. Haven't worked there myself though.

Also their stock seems to be doing well. Oath on the other hand not so much? Just based on posts on Blind today

Workday

Microsoft Lmjt68 Sep 10, 2018

Kinda tough. Oath might have a fun product... If they ever get to delivery or don't get liquidated by Verizon. Workday has better prospects and stability but product is boring.

Workday Descartes Sep 11, 2018

Product isn’t boring if you’re on the right team. Certain apps will be boring though obviously... but if you’re in tools then you wouldn’t be building apps

You are calculating TC wrong

You should’ve added a poll. Anyways imo you should consider Workday

3 yoe swe 1 role is lowball Ask for swe 2 - that way yearly bonus will be 15% Nvm join workday , changes happen every quarter here in management

Cerner blindme101 OP Sep 10, 2018

Couldn’t ask for swe2 since I have no experience in Big data

Yahoo. While it has lost much prestige it’s better than workday in terms of branding. Aside from that I got no idea.

Oath lolsupply Sep 11, 2018

Oath is a dying company. Perks are being take away. Platform is boring and lame. I'm an ex-Oath and leaving them was best thing ever. Workday is lame and has its own programming language, but it's short term future is brighter

Why is it lame?

Oath lolsupply Sep 11, 2018

Oath: advertising business is lame and can't compete with G or Fb Workday: platform and field of work is not interesting. Also, they created their own secretive programming language that no one outside the industry uses.
