I am currently an L5 PgM at Google and just got an offer for IC5 Product manager at FB. I am def thinking of switching but wanted to get some perspective from people who may have down a similar switch (taking growth, wlb etc into account) Current TC: $270k Potential new comp: $330k #programmanager #productmanager
whats being a pgm at google like? im considering making the switch
It can really vary from team to team. Thatās the annoying part that the role is super open to interpretation. You can do crap work and be a glorified assistant or you can also do thought leadership work and put scaling strategies together. Totally depends on the team and how they view the role
How did you get a PM offer with PgM experience? Also is the FB offer after negotiation or is it their first offering? Also, YoE?
I have a previous PM experience and even at G I did some PM work. Offer is After negotiation, 8 YOE
Did you get an M7 MBA to originally enter PM?
What org PM? Can make a difference. That said, what is pay for l4 PgM at Google? Can a newly promoted IC5 fb pgm hit l5?
lol is this a serious fucking question? obviously PM>PgM even correcting for the slight prestige difference between g and fb. if you donāt intuitively understand that, iād recommend not coming to fb because youāll get pipād.
Are these both non-technical roles? IMO always go product over pgm - greater visibility, harder to get into, TC growth, and a PM can do a pgm work but not always the other way around.
