A recruiter reached out on LinkedIn about a Technical Project Manager role on contract “with plans to convert to full time.” Does this actually happen frequently? Do people who are hired on contract actually convert to full-time? What is it like working as a contractor for Meta? I know that Meta is going through a bit of a financial crisis at the moment. I’m wondering how likely my chances would be to convert to full-time if stocks rebound. Thanks in advance for your advice and help! #meta #contractor #projectmanager #recruiting
Happened in less than 1 year for someone working under me but you need advocates and some luck (aka headcount). Compared to other places contractors are actually treated not that differently here. At my last job they wouldn’t even look contractors in the eye. Here I think it’s different at least from what I’ve seen.
Thank you! That’s really good to know! I heard contractors are almost never hired full-time at Google, and wanted to see if this is the case at Meta.
Ask the recruiter to send you an email with details, check the domain from which they sent the email. If it is meta related domain, go ahead and get some details about the project. If it is some 3rd part email, don't bother
Why is that? I’m curious - the recruiter reached out on LinkedIn and by phone only, and works for Crystal Equation, a generic IT Staffing / Recruiting firm. I’ll ask them to email. But does this mean they’re less likely to place a role?
Yeah, then don't bother. Never heard of them, maybe someone from Meta can chime in. But, it usually goes like you can't go full time with a computer you worked as a contractor, they will make you sign that at the beginning. I only know of 2 consulting firms that source people to Meta/FB as contractors. Perficient and forgot another name. But, never heard of this Crystal Equation

Thanks @Livewarer — would anyone be willing to give me an internal referral? I have a few years experience as an engineer, currently working as a data engineer, but I’m looking to transition into technical program/product/project management.
Feel free to DM with your resume google drive link and 3 positions that match the best to your skills. One staffing agency recruiter approached me with $75 per hour and another approached with $80 per hour for the same position and location.
Thanks so much!!!
Don’t believe anything unless it’s in writing you signed lol
Don’t.
