Hello, I am expecting an offer from Pixar for senior engineer role, was wondering how are the salaries and if there is room for negotiations? Can someone from Pixar please suggest YOE - 13 Current TC -345k Edit (added for future reference & helping other folks) Offer TC -230k, I rejected it, however I will truly miss this opportunity, however salary is too low considering they are in Bay area, I also have better competing offers but I don't think it made any difference for them. #tech #pixar #software
Pixar sounds like a dope place to work
It is likely lower than any FAANG. I worked for film, and some of the animation companies for the past 10 years. In one occasion as technical Director friend of mine applied for a job at Pixar. When he saw the low offer they told him “it is a privilege to work at Pixar, you would need to have a pay cut”. The TC was less than 100k. Recently I know someone that got an offer for ILM, same thing. So I imagine Pixar has not changed much. Many great engineers from Pixar, Disney and Dreamworks eventually switch to FAANG because of salary. That being said, work culture and WLB tends to be good, better than any FAANG, but I’m not sure if having 100K for WLB is worth it? In many cases the salaries of small companies are better than some of the big animation companies. People work there because they love animation (until they do t and get out)
I am pretty sure they will offer close to 250-300k but if they don't offer remote then that will be too low for bay area, I am hoping they are able to reach 400k
I just checked with a friend that works at Pixar and they expect to go back on January 18 2022. They are doing remote. But they didn’t say it was permanent.
Not as high as tech
Senior Eng from Pixar here: Pixar pays way under market compared to FAANG. I would be shocked if you’re able to match your current TC. My guess is you will get an offer in the low to mid 200s. Also important to note and hot off the presses is that the exec team announced last week that they will not allow permanent remote work, but will support a flex arrangement of working from home a couple days a week, and all employees are expected to be back within commuting distance to the studio by mid January next year. If you have other questions I’m happy to answer them.
Hope it's ok if I pm you? Glad to hear from you
Sure
You should expect to be unimpressed by the offer. I'd estimate under 250, unless you have a specialty which we're desperate for.
Hmm, mind sharing what team you are in?
Yo go work at Pixar or VFX to have fun and fulfill passion, those companies bonuses are opportunity to work on iconic cgi movies and having fun creating silly shit. In tech you get paid high to deal and compete with highly obsessive career sociopaths and most boring products like website based messengers…
Or create silly shit at TikTok and earn more than at FAANG. Also an option.

Current YOE? I feel like if there's nothing on levels, you're probably going to have a hard time getting numbers here. I imagine the bar is pretty high, so you should probably set a goal for top of market salaries for senior swe (350-450).
*Some of the pixar reviews here suggest uncompetitive pay. Just guesses at this point, but you could be looking at 200-300 if you don't have a competing offer
Added current TC & YOE, surely would need 400+
