This will be become more common with increased adoption of ChatGPTl. Welcome to the new age of academic dishonesty. A college professor in South Carolina is sounding the alarm after catching a student using ChatGPT — a new artificial intelligence chat bot that can quickly digest and spit out written information about a vast array of subjects — to write an essay for his philosophy class. The weeks-old technology, released by OpenAI and readily available to the public, comes as yet another blow to higher learning, already plagued by rampant cheating. Earlier this month, Hick had instructed his class to write a 500-word essay on the 18th-century philosopher David Hume and the paradox of horror, which examines how people can get enjoyment from something they fear, for a take-home test. But one submission, he said, featured a few hallmarks that “flagged” AI usage in the student’s “rudimentary” answer. https://nypost.com/2022/12/26/students-using-chatgpt-to-cheat-professor-warns/
"abject terror" professors are so dramatic
What does abject even mean
Abject is an adjective that describes something that is characterized by complete hopelessness, misery, or degradation. It is often used to describe a state or condition that is characterized by extreme poverty, suffering, or degradation. For example, someone might describe a person who is homeless and living on the streets as being in an abject state of poverty. Similarly, someone might describe a situation as being abject if it is marked by extreme suffering or misery, such as a war-torn country or a natural disaster.
We are going back to the good ol’ pen and paper exams.
Academic Dishonesty existed long before ChatGPT. College is pay to play. I am not going to take out loans only to fail? That is silly.( What about all the papers he has graded that were written by professional test takers? What about the College Admissions Scandal?
This is the same thing they said when Wikipedia came out to replaceencyclopedia brittanica. People sensationalize shit by nature, but there is already work on how to catch someone using it for a essay.
Maybe if you can't tell the difference between ChatGPT's bullshit and legitimately written essays, you're wasting everyone's time
Margin Call Be First. Be Better. Or Cheat.
Interesting how many people on Blind condone cheating. It’s not just a “tool” in college where you’re supposed to be learning.
College is where you should be learning about your major, not useless Gen Eds that are used to squeeze an extra year of tuition out of you.
The only cheating happening is colleges cheating people out of their money and into debt.
What’s the point of homework?
Practice.
