Hello! I’m interviewing at Stripe for manager level role. I am currently pregnant expecting end of Oct. Is Stripe layoff culture still high? Is it stupid to work for a few months and then be off for 6 on mat leave? Looking for advice from anyone who has had to navigate this before or currently works at stripe.

Unrelated, but did you apply through a referral?
It is a hard situation to be in. Definitely tell them before joining or accepting the offer. Expect the process to take ~1mo more. So, you will be almost in 3rd trimester. As you are just starting the process, there is 50:50 chance. If you get it, great then you can decide to share. At this point, you can request to have offer open until after maternity and just deal with team match or join. If you don't, it was a great learning experience. You don't have to solve every problem today.
Thank you!!
All the best and Congratulations!!
Don't worry, get the job and take the leave when needed. Enjoy life with your new baby. You are protected by law for pregnancy at all times.
Congratulations OP! I don’t have direct experience at Stripe, but I would say just go for it if it’ll improve your family’s life. Wait until you’re on board to disclose if you can. I had a previous colleague at another company who was interviewing and thought it was the right thing to let the hiring manger know because they would be working with them and wanted to have open communication. Unfortunately, they rescinded her offer, so look out for yourself and your family’s wellbeing. I’m sure you might have already looked into it, but also look into eligibility for FMLA. That’s the job protection part I believe, but I think it’s like a minimum of 1 year to qualify?
hm, would they let you take 6mo after working for a few months? if that’s what you aim for I’d check the policy. e.g. where I work (not DataRobot) it’s 2months max if you work less than a year
I work at Stripe. My advice would be similar to post above: wait to get the offer to disclose. It puts them in a tough position to rescind and HR is very concerned about optics. My lived experience is they will not appear to react negatively to your pregnancy, even supportive. When you’re out, you will miss annual comp review. This is where they get you. Expect to get no raise (not a big deal for a new joiner as it is for a tenured Stripe) and a hit to your bonus (halved). Stripe says all the right things but a history across org of punishing women on mat leave.
That’s helpful!! Thank you. Do you know if there is a certain amount of time you have to be at the company to qualify for mat leave? I’ve seen some tech companies that have a 1 year requirement
I don’t think so… not seeing anything in the benefits docs. The 12wk FMLA job protection only applies if you’ve been there for a year.
you can hide it as much as you can but when company find out you are pregnant on day1, thats a very bad taste in their mouth. You aren't likely succeeded in your role, but money is important so take it while it lasts
Op don’t be deterred by these comments. Sure in the beginning they will not like it. But later everything depends on your performance. If you think you will have difficulty with childcare and that will impact, sure your growth will be hindered. But if you start performing really well, nobody is going to say oh 2 years back she joined while pregnant and didn’t provide us updates about her ovaries as they all have heard of discrimination.
