I've always been driven towards making games. Dedicated my college career for it, was a project lead and gameplay engineer on a project for my whole senior year. Got sucked into joining my current employer as a Software Engineer just to pay the bills. My experience: Did an internship during Jun - Aug 2021 with GS and started working at GS fulltime since January 2022. I have exp with UE4 and Unity. Professional experience wise - mainly backend programming with Java, Spring boot, GraphQL (Netflix DGS), etc. Looking for referrals for any game development positions available. Note: Before asking if I would want to work in a toxic industry - just look at my current employer #activisionblizzard #epicgames #riotgames #playstation #ubisoft #bungie #electronicarts #microsoft #amazon
DM me if you're interested in a referral to Bungie

Sorry to say this, but you probably need to offer a bit more than a leading a project in college to land a role at most of these studios. We usually want to see that you have a genuine passion for this stuff. Whether that be a game you've been working on, your own game engine, or a bunch of random experiments in commerical engines β it's a pretty important factor as to whether or not you're able to break into the industry as a programmer. You haven't said anything here one way or the other, so I just wanted to give you a heads-up. Your working experience in adjacent industries won't help too much just yet. You're also very unlikely to get a salary anywhere near your current one if GS pays as well as I imagine they do. So be prepared for that as well. That said, if you want to have a chat my DMs are open. π
