I screwed up. I make 65k and accepted a position at a new company making 95k. I then found out I got onsites (first time passing the phone interview) from LinkedIn and now Expedia. LinkedIn I explained I accepted and turned down which I regret. With Expedia I really wanna just do the interview anyways. I’d probably do the on-site Friday but I start my new position the following Monday so if I got the Expedia position I’d end up working 2-3 days at my new position before finding out the results. My question is: should I be transparent with the recruiter that I accepted a worse position but still want to try for Expedia? If I do tell them will they not let me proceed? If I don’t tell them will they get mad when they find out during background check? Thanks Tc: 95k
In general, you should limit the information as much as possible. So any question that starts in “should I tell” is always no. It’s perfectly fine to accept an offer and keep interviewing and if you get something better then take it. Just tel the original offer your “circumstances changed” or some general BS, you don’t need to tell everyone your life story
Even say that if I’m already two days into the new job?
Yes
Delay joining by a week
What would I say for my excuse at this point though? I signed the offer that had the start date of next Monday
Say you are not well. You have some family emergency.
Don't tell them and do the interview with expedia. If you clear it then you can always say no to your current accepted job offer if expedia offers lot more money.
