I'm a principal engineer with most experience/expertise in backend Distributed systems and big data. I have done a couple of AI/ML but nothing substantial. For my limited experience all i gathered was that ML is like learning a new programming language,libraries/models it comes equipped with as long as you know when to use what model. 1. From a software developer point of view is there more to it if i don't want to be a data scientist. 2. Has anyone made transition to AI/ML expert and how did you start? Any course suggestions? No no no. You don’t just learn some new libraries. You have to learn all the linear algebra and statistics too.
Can you give me an example please. From my experience let's say i want to do anomaly detection using KNN. I would just train and evaluate an existing pyod model.
You CAN just use a library but you risk doing it all wrong and coming up with answers that look right but make bad assumptions. This is for the same reason why we teach kids long division before we let them use a calculator. You don’t need to go back and get a degree but at least read some textbooks and/or take some online courses on Coursera/EdX
