I’m a PhD new grad and I have to decide from the following offers. Offer 1: hedge fund, NYC, TC 550K Pro: $, allow WFH Con: notoriously toxic culture in certain groups (team not decided yet), bad WLB, long noncompete, fire before bonus Offer 2: Google MLE(L4), MTV, TC 330K Pro: WLB(?), ML focused, team seems nice Con: Less $, probably slow promotion Offer 3: Meta RS (E4), Menlo Park, TC 350K Pro: same as G and maybe faster promotion Con: Less $, stock price at all time high rn Which offer is better?
Did u include sign on in 550 tc? What is your recurring?
Yes, recurring is ~430K, bonus guaranteed for first two years
i’d probably take meta
Can you give a breakdown of your salary? I would go with higher base first, and then change to a better org with higher salary only. Otherwise there wouldn't be much salary increase
Are you in FAIR in meta? What kind of work would you be doing at hedge fund? Stat arb or deep learning related things? If I would think about exit opportunities. If you work at hedge fund and not do deep learning, you will probably go back to tech as L4 in 2 years. If you go to meta and publish, you might go to hedge fund for 800k in 2 years. If you are fine with staying in finance, look at your noncompete and how much you get paid during NC
Makes sense. The team at Meta is MRS(recommendation), and the work would be more DL infra focused. The hedge fund is stat arb and mostly use XGboost. Base is all I got for noncompete.
Your skillset at hedge fund will not be transferrable and you will end up as an E4 2 or even 3 years after working there. How long is the non compete? You might be able to negotiate your noncompete pay up to 550 of thats a deal breaker for you. And it looks like it should be. Also ask if you can double dip during noncompete, ie get paid your base while working for tech
What citadel offering remote work nyc 550k???
It’s not Citadel lolll
Which HF then? Small one? If you are comfortable sharing please do. Also f*ck meta take that one lol
550k is not recurring. What's real TC from y2
~520K second year, no guarantee afterwards. Recurring part is 430K
I would do tech tbh. Meta or Google idk because you would know more about the project and what excites you
Yeah do tech as MLE! If you want to go finance for money after 2-3 years, you can def do it. I get lots of messages from head hunters and actually got interviews from hedge funds. I would go to Google.
Meta offer seems low--if you can get them either of them above 400 [and ideally closer to 450] I'd personally take meta or google, especially because I don't love NYC. not enough outdoor space.
Citadel
Not Citadel
2sig?
