Thoughts on Aravind Srinivas, CEO of perplexity.ai
I find him overselling his product and trashing Google in every possible way. One of his tweet was in lines of "Google search is done" etc. I get it he is trying to ride the AI wave to get money and sell his company. I used the product, its has good UI but it doesnt work well for complex queries. Google SGE (quick AI answer) is far better in terms of speed and quality.

I find SGE to be so good that I don't need to go to gemini chat bot unless I am looking for some image generation. The weird thing is that not many colleagues of mine even know what SGE is 🤦 .. let alone the rest of the world. Obviously, Google is slow rolling it for cost purposes. Aravind roams a lot in VC tech bro circles where dunking on Google and Sundar is in vogue these days and has gained some Twitter clout due to his comments. You don't expect a 25 yr old who gained so much fame suddenly to be mature.
Google is not known for marketing their products. But SGE is really good in quality
SGE is expensive for the company, and Google has no choice but to slow roll it. I do somehow wish that any with a paying Google subscription like Google One or YouTube, etc, should be able to see the SGE option on the search page.
Makes sense. I like how Google selectively generates AI based answers. I don't want AI answers for products I search, so that's good
LOL. Ok. I like perplexity. I also like the fact that some of the high and mighty G-ers, and I don't mean the legit old timey, hardcore eng G-ers but the G-ers with underserved inflated egos, are brought down to reality by an ex-intern's startup. Of course, Aravind S will sell it hard because it's a good product and Even if it wasn't as good, that's his job as the CEO isn't it? I'm pretty sure Google can come up with the best answering engine inside their VPN but I don't know if it will ever reach the hands of the common man.

Immature and riding the Hype train like many others. Perplexity is promising but in no way a Google killer
I get bleedingly strong charlatan vibes from him, but have no data either way. My charlatandar is usually pretty good, though.

Can't handle competition? There is an AI war going on and Google is competing in every possible way, so competition is not new for Google. Openai is a direct competitor and I don't see their founders trashing Google.
