Iβm curious about the role HR should play in the PIP process. How have different companies approached this? Should HR be more hands-on or is it better for managers to take the lead?

HR must take the lead and be fair to both sides. Management usually does it know how yo create a PIP and usually they are ready to terminate the employee at thst point.
I realize that HR is supposed to take the side of the company, but I have seen many managers use PIPs incorrectly who should have been terminated instead.
