Msft stock has been performing much better than most other tech stocks and it's Market cap now is more than $2.81T. Now they might also get some great researchers from OpenAI. But they have low pay and less perks compared to their peers. Even in an amazing time, their leaders didn't give raises to their employees. Will this adversely affect pay and perks in Tech industry? I wish companies that pay better start performing better :(
The pay is low but there is room for dead wait. Microsoft is not efficient so you will great work life balance
Industry might be affected but not due to MSFT, due to the correction that has been happening in last year. MSFT does not want to and will not compete with Google and Meta for pay at the junior midlevel at least. The company has some sort of benchmark for pay which it considers competitive and it sticks to that. It also has started expanded dev centers outside of Seattle to make it easier to compete since lower competition outside west coast.
Does Google even employ jr/mid-level? Last I checked they were laying off, not hiring.
L3 l4. Not sure recently what's going on
Yes
MSFT can pay well when they want, through fully owned subsidiary. LinkedIn (that's ending) GitHub retained their comp policies. As long the subsidiary meets their goals, they don't care. When you stop meeting (LinkedIn fy 23) you are absorbed and Microsoftized
Too true.
What do you mean by ending? Will linkedin employees get regular MSFT offers from now on? Is it only for new employees or will your salary actually getting decreased?
The highest paid engineers are working at bad performing companies Snap, Pinterest, Lyft, bytedance, coupang will outpay FAANG
Microsoft's influence won't but a recession will return SWE pay to more reasonable levels.
Just join other tech companies if you want better pay. These days itโs hard for many to get a job. We lucky our layoff was relatively mild.
