Non-eng TC/188K YOE/4 I joined Cisco just a year ago but I don't like my project and company culture. I think I should make my move at some point, but not sure when it should be. Now--because I find this place is not the best place for my career path? Later--because it's been only a year? Here're the pros and cons of my first-year experience with Cisco. Pros: - Overall, I think Cisco has a conscious and humane culture and I haven't experienced any "people problem" so far. Of course, Cisco does layoff twice a year. But since my team is working for the projects supporting the org's business strategy for the next 5 years, my group hasn't got impacted by the budget cut or layoff for the past years and after COVID-19. - Plus, I like my role. Cons: - I'm not excited about the "product" itself that I am working on. The product is just too old and obsolete. I want to make a greater impact. - I'm so sad every time I encounter the company's legacy systems, bureaucracy, and company-wide inefficient communication. - No clear job ladder I can climb up to. I'm an individual contributor and my manager is not an expert in my work area. If you were in the same boat, would you stay for a bit more? Or start spreading your resume and leave as soon as you can?

Don’t worry about leaving a job after a year, I did it after 9 months with no questions about it during interviews. IMO worry more about getting the best offer with the best role for you, and leave then, not about how long you’ve been there
Good point and I agreed. I hope I can find a product that I can deeply engage in and be proud of.
Move on !
Hi neighbor, what about you? do you like where you work?
nope but I have other personal priorities that needs immediate attention ... in general the longer you stay at Cisco it becomes more difficult to move on. Cisco was great once but those days are long gone ! Just look at the organic innovations Vs acquisitions. We should be IT sales shop rather than technology company. All we do is buy, repackage and sale. Concerns you mentioned are widespread across all groups and #1 reason to leave for engineering folks. The utter incompetence of management rank and file is unbelievable. Glad you are curious and proactive. Best of luck !
188 is great for 4yoe, I’d apply and just wait until you get a better job.
Thanks for your reply. I’m the OP and appreciate your thoughts. Blind just forced me to create a new account for some reason and now I’m using this new random id.
