Rahu transits Pisces on oct 30. Very bad for next 1 year
Shani dawns upon all of us after Q1
Guru(Jupiter) is coming!
At this point, companies are simply having fun laying off people and increasing their profit margin. Previously, there used to be a stigma and negative publicity associated with the layoffs but not anymore. Clearly shows how materialistic the world is and every person is on its own.
Devs are a dime a dozen these days. Companies are not worried about their image or being able to attract talent in the future.
Yeah. The fact that everyone is doing it somehow makes them feel normal.
Nov 1st, if you add 60 days WARN notice, you can complete it all by EOY and not roll over accounting beyond that. Accrue for severance and liabilities on Q4 2023 books and start clean from Q1 2024, optics is better that way. Can renew potentially loans.
So are we safe from layoffs for a couple quarters if still here on nov1? Until stocks puke and investors keep asking about cost reduction and margin improvements?
yes but also no
Interest rates related. Debt ain’t cheap. Prior made sense to spend 100$ this year to make $80/year. Now the equation flipped and companies need to trim down.
Which companies?
US corporate culture, end of October is the last big window to get in layoffs before the new year. Big companies try not to layoff during Thanksgiving/Christmas window.
Companies do layoffs during Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s not that rare actually. That’s at-will for you…
Reason 1) Growth is out so only profitable companies will continue to get funding. Unprofitable growth companies are going out of business. Reason 2) Because only way to increase stock price when rev stagnates is to cut workers... they do just that. Reason 3) Good earnings is just an outcome of financial engineering. Things like putting off unrealized losses till next year, channel stuffing, counting rev on contracts for things not delivered or even money collected. 4) Sales growth contraction shows significant recession on coming.
channel stuffing? Where to learn more about financial engineering?
Higher rates are starting to impact. Zombie companies , small and midcao have to starting cutting jobs to survive .. i think 2023 AI boom and govt spending pushed the recession out .. its coming
Getting a feeling there's going to be a lot of layoffs in non-tech in Q1 2024
Yes. Big tech will regret the transition of jobs off-shore
If the non-tech economy gets hit it'll come back to hit tech pretty hard
