I lost my job a few months ago and have had little success with getting interviews in tech. I am now planning to go to my home country in Asia and apply from there. I don't have visa restrictions that require me to be in the US. Do companies perceive you differently if you're jobless and interviewing from another country? I had once interviewed remotely and had been ghosted by a recruiter when I asked if she could call an Asian number. I'm planning to use my US number when I go. Please advise. PS. What a brutal fucking job market! I'm ex FAANG and it's still bad.
You donât even have to mention youâre outside the US!
Just say youâre traveling or on vacation when youâre interviewing. There will be no issues/judgement.
Op, I feel youâre confused as to whether or not you want to disclose your location. If you donât want to disclose your location, it is super easy to do so and Iâm sure you could have figured it out yourself. The real problem seems to be that youâre confused.
Role?
It's because you are a citizen dude.

Are you a US citizen or green card holder? If so, you should be fine. If you need sponsorship, good luck.

Then relax. I have a friend who was on a similar boat. After being laid off, he put his things in storage and went back to his country of origin in LATAM. Took a few months to interview prep and crack an interview. Took him ~4 months. Cracked faang, then moved back to the US.
