How to handle unwanted male attention at work
I've recently received a confirmation mail from Amazon that they'd be extending an offer for me for the SDE2 role (India Retail Excellence Tech team). Also, had a team matching call with Google and the hiring manager explicitly said that he hopes I join his team and is looking forward to meet me soon, which makes me believe that there's a good chance I'm getting an offer from them (GCP Horizontals team). Unfortunately, I don't know if it'd be for an L3 or L4 role since the recruiter has not given me any feedback yet, nor is replying to my calls/mails. Have an admit for MSCS from UMass Amherst too. I really do want to pursue it since my UG was in Mechanical and I want to learn CS fundamentals properly in an academic setting. I'm also interested in exploring more on topics like ML, Security and I think Grad Schools might be the best place for the purpose. However, as I know, most of the firms in US treat you as a new grad once you graduate, which means high chances of ending up as an SDE1 even after 2 years of studies :/ I do want to work in US for few years though but as I have heard, I can have a good chance to do the same with Amazon or Google. Hence, confused on what to do. Please help! Looking for some perspectives here which I might be missing! Currently inclined towards job switch over MS because of high probability of being SDE1 even after MS. Also, would be very helpful if anyone can give insights on how's the work, wlb etc at Google's/Amazon's mentioned teams. TC - 19lpa YOE - 1.7 #google #amazon #mscs
MSCS is a myth. Anyways you will be leetcoding for 2 years to get back to what you already have in hands + Visa shit. None of my CS friends actually learnt anything in their MS anyways
I guess, it depends a bit on the background too. Your friends might be from CS UG background so things might be kinda repetitive for them. I have never studied OS, Networks, Security etc so it'd be similar to a UG learning experience ig with a Masters degree name. But agreed, I'd be in the same or worse position (SDE1/2) 2 years down the line so reluctant to pursue it. Applied for Georgia Tech's Online MSCS too and got an admit so will see if that's good enough to learn all these.
You are from tier-1 and it's not worth it dude. You will get many opportunities in India After 2 yrs your US tc would be 1.3cr in CA and India TC would be 80. Now you know it's not worth for you
Hey, thanks! Yeah numbers wise, that's true. And that's why I'm inclined to switch. Any idea about how easy/difficult it'd be to internally transfer to US from Amazon/Google? In favour of MS, was just thinking from another perspective too. Since, the fields like AI/ML/Security are booming and pay bit more than SDEs even now, would we be better off over a long term if we switch to these? And I guess, MS would give me a very good option to learn and explore them, and maybe I might develop a good interest in them. I know, I'm sounding like a fresher here but somehow I do have this confusion π
Amazon L1 visa transfer to US is very easy. Google little tougher but not that much(both on sde2 level). Most of the ML roles which pay higher require PHD(which is a different story). IN 2 yrs time shifting on L1 visa won't make sense monetarily Exploring and stuff is personal choice but remember the IIT days( how we ended up hating assignments). It's gonna be the same( few friends from CMU and Georgia tech told me)
