Asking girlfriend of 5months to split bills went BAD
I was approached by a recruiter for a senior product manager role at Amazon and for that I have to move out of Michigan. I am currently making $150K with over 12 years of experience as a product manager. The location choices were Seattle, Nashville, Phoenix, D.C, New York City, or Austin. He said that max they can offer is $235K TC ($160 base and $75K in other did not discuss much). I asked for $350K total compensation. Will it be worth to move at this salary to any of the location. I am married and have a toddler.
Def not New York.
Did the recruiter share the level? That TC is not equitable across those locations. It’s low. If they won’t budge, don’t be afraid to walk away. Once you’re in at low TC, it will be difficult to adjust. Advocate for yourself NOW!!!
And how many RSUs? We can help you gauge if they are low…
Did not ask that. He mentioned $160K base and $75K in rest.
It’s worth it if you can get to a MCOL or LCOL. Amazon will give you much greater opportunities of future prospects than Ford. Take the hit for 2 years then move onto google if you don’t like Amazon
Higher than my L6 SDE TC.
Max 235 is BS, max without special approval for non tech PM is 267k, tech could be much higher
Totally agree. Don’t settle, I have friends in non tech SPM L6 roles with much higher TC. Also, Amazon doesn’t give bonuses FWIW. Ask the recruiter if you’re getting a signing bonus because it’s not clear from your post.
How much will be a good ask if I choose to go to Austin, Phoenix..
Plenty of money for DC
That's a little low for non tech PM 6... If you're planning to live in Seattle or NYC, budget will be tight. A lot of people make 300k in Seattle with a base salary of 160-200k.
