Jio Meet (Zoom) Jio Glasses Jio TV+ (combines all streaming with SSO and easy search and filter across all services, I don't know if such service even exists) Jio Pay Jio Mart (Amazon + Aliexpress) Jio News Jio Chat Indian government also developed UPI for payment, DigiLocker (no need to carry physical documents like license, insurance, car registration - verified copy is available on the app and is equivalent to physical copy). Payment landscape is more advanced in India than the US! RuPay (competing Mastercard and Visa) Neither Indian government nor Jio pays high TC. The high paying TC companies like Swiggy, Zomato are struggling to profit and just have a food delivery while Jio is making products at much bigger scale! How are they doing it?!
Arm twisting.
I believe their strength is in focusing solutions for Indian ecosystem and thinking long term! Check out this job at Jio: Data Scientist https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/1907796208 Focus is less on research and more on applied learning.
Even if focus is on India, technology is same! It should scale and work.
Difference between Indian engineers in India and US is not of quality but of greed.
Frankly, after so much India bashing on blind in the last few months, it's refreshing to see this news. It's hilarious when people maintaining/tweaking web apps for so called unicorns and Big Tech rant about the lack of innovation and creativity from India and Indian engineers. The word Innovation itself has been diluted these days, thanks to the stock market rally.
Bitter much?
Dude everything is like linked to fingerprints. India went through a voluntary (more like compulsory) collection of fingerprints from people. Now, basically all services are kind of linked through your fingerprints, and one ID.
Your comment doesn't any make sense. What does fingerprint have to do with Jio Glass, Jio Meet, RuPay, Jio Mart and ample of other products!
That's the point, no one knows. Lol
Indian developers spend time building products while US developers spent time on leetcoding their ass off their entire life for high TC
There is not much difference in quality between Indian engineers working in FAANG in US vs those working in product based companies in India and currently less than 20% of 1.5 million STEM graduates are moving out of India, rest are staying back. Also Jio pay decently well to attract them for a good lifestyle in Mumbai, much more than service based companies. and few more jio products: JioSaavn (Spotify) JioBrower JioTV JioCinema (Netflix) JioCloud (Dropbox) JioSecurity JioHealth JioFiber JioHome JioGate JioEducationPlatform Jio5G solution
Curious, what does Jio pay an SDE3/senior equivalent in Mumbai?
So 10-20% of a Facebook, Google, Microsoft Senior engineer salary in India (and even less when compared to Bay area salaries). I am waiting for ANY response from "TC=quality" blinders 😂😂😂😂😂.
I think they are all trash product, made for a market who accepts trash products.
The ratings are still 4+ on Play Store. If you remember Skype, Hangouts, even FB was consistently trash product (the app) for years when they launched and they slowly improved it. Zoom is not launched yesterday, it is around since long time. Quality will improve by time. If you launch a polished product in your v1, you are too late to the market (unsaid SWE rule, go out and capture the market rather than waiting for polished product)
Yeah. For people like you who work at Priceline
Not the most polished products. But capturing market is the key. And they are succeeding.
I remember reading 10 years ago that India was graduating 1 million+ engineers every year. Some of them found jobs at Jio.
Like some of them found jobs at other companies, including at some US companies? Doesn't answer OPs question.
So the question is how they are able to hire employees? In socialist or communist countries, a job with the government is viewed as a prize. I expect the Indian government is able to hire good employees for that reason. All Jio has to do is to pay more than the Indian government. The US companies are in competition with the H1 visa. If they don't pay enough their employees will try getting hired on a visa.
