The hype Jensen and Nvidia getting makes one think it is a perfect example of how being at the right place at the right time could help. Now whatever statement by him is seen as some sort of devine. Having 200 direct reports, kids do no need to learn coding in future. I do not think that he may have done something as evolutionary as Sam Altman or anything in that category can add Musk for SpaceX. The GPU chips were always there and were being used. Yes now Nvidia started prioritizing AI more but getting Jensen to be the superhero of AI seems a little far fetched. He has started cozying up with Musk and both feeding us the bs about full self driving.
Maybe not a visionary, but heās done very well running nvidia for decades.
Yes and it was more on him pretending to be an AI expert.
AMD was at the right place and at the right time all along, all the way back to the ATI days, selling great GPUs as well. But Su failed to envision the AI world of today and capitalized on the hype train, until NVDA gained almost 100% of the market share. As for the consequences, AMD remains a small company <1/13 the size of NVDA. NVDA deserves to be the king for its vision.
Yes and no The CUDA tooling and vision is top tier. The goal was for general computing on GPU architecture SOME use case was always going to come and leverage this hardware. That was the vision. AMD dropped the ball. Intel dropped the ball. All FPGA ecosystem participants dropped the ball. Apple is the realest contender with Metal on their own architecture and hardware distribution pipeline
He recognized the potential of large NNs early and bet the company on it. It paid off. That required vision. AMD and Intel could be where Nvidia is now if they had the right leadership. So could Sony and Samsung.
Agreed. ChatGPT did more to Nvidia than Jensen ever did. He would have been a God if he had invested into building companies like OpenAI to generate demand.
ChatGPT only runs on NVIDIA because Jensen invested heavily in CUDA and generalized computing over a decade ago in the first place. AlexNet ran on CUDA because of that vision, and the rest of deep learning followed.
If no CUDA, AI companies would've simply figured out something else to build on. It's just that it was available and since many started to use, it became a ecosystem and devs did not see a huge reason to move away similar to how Java became and still is popular. Open AI is where real creativity was. Let's not fool ourselves, without Open AI NVIDIA would've been just another meh company like it always was.
His astrological planets are in perfect place so
Lol just like Hooli's
Every person in the tech industry must take a bow and feel grateful to witness a visionary and hard working person as Jensen. It's about persistence, hardwork, and a once in a century type of phenomenal personality.
That's interesting perspective.
You donāt need to be a visionary to see that we have reached physical limits of chip manufacturing. Nvidia was prepared and invested heavily on accelerators several decades ago and was waiting for the killer application to emerge. Yesterday it was crypto,Today it is AI, tomorrow it is something else, but accelerators are always going to be the future unless someone discovers new physics.
If it was so easy to see the future of computing why did only CEO on planet earth saw it and prepared for it and later smashed the execution..
Ai has many applications yet to be unlocked. 1. Health (not just doing some analysis on complex disorders and giving solutions but building artificial smart organs) 2. Climate change (insurance premiums etc along with a way to solve it) 3. Crypto (many more coins can be mined not limited to ether) 4. Autonomous cars are in early stages., lot more to come when robotaxi will be a reality 5. Space exploration and trying to find meaningful places on other planets where life may exist
we're just envious Jensen is not South Asian
Sam Altman hasnāt done anything revolutionary either š.
I can see why. Bots were there already too.
Sam Altman <<<<<<< Ilya Sutskever
