About 6 months ago i got a couple of offers Oracle : Net Suite : 225 TC : Bay Area : IC4(I think did not get to that point) Amazon : AWS : 180 TC : Austin: L4 SAP: SuccessFactors :175 TC: Bay Area: Senior Engineer Confluent : ? : 180TC: Bay Area : ? TC at that point : 200K : Bay area: Senior Engineer YOE: 7 3/4 Wanted to move out of Bay area. Wanted to buy a house :D When deciding i was like AUSTIN!!! great COL and with that salary its awesome. My main mistake was to look only at TC and COL. A few months down the lane i realized that I was low balled and i was given a L4 position which is for university grads ! with a university grad salary ! WTF do i do? In terms of my future it looks like I have taken a beating ... I feel I was unjustly downgraded ! Advice from smarter people. Trolls welcome(at least I can get a laugh out with some witty replies ) #amazon #oracle #austin #culture #officelife #compensation #TC
How do you know you were unjustly downleveled? Maybe you just performed the same as a new grad? YOE doesn’t really mean anything other than potentially better LP stories.
Agreed but the fact that other companies felt that I was in a more tenured position says something...? Also, the question is not that I got downlevlled but the question is what now? My manager already started the promodoc etc... but I do not see any chance of that happening in next 6 months ...
Maybe those companies care about different things (LP answers maybe weren’t what they were looking for?) or you just had a bad day when interviewing with Amazon. All I’m saying is it isn’t necessarily unjust. For what you should do, it’s the same as always. If you like Amazon stay and work your way up. If you want more money faster, interview and switch jobs. What else is there to do? And looking at the other companies you could have chosen, amazon is probably the best name for your resume and highest TC offer anyway so why even think badly of it.
Oracle's numbers are surprising these days.
You got L4 but the comp is significantly higher than new grad comp, standard new grad offer was something like 140k TC in Seattle this year... 180k in Austin is more like L5 comp. I think that’s good, you get lower expectations with good comp. L4 isn’t only for new grads either.
So this means you should be promoted fast as well
Downleveled != lowball. That's a top percentile L4 TC.
Dude how is L4 a graduate position lol
Then is it L3? I don’t think there is an L3. Is it L5?
Some of the people who joined my team fresh out of college were L4. This is for Amazon and not Google :) Amazon SDE starts at L4
