https://www.reuters.com/technology/meta-charged-with-failing-comply-with-eu-tech-rules-2024-07-01/ Meta breaking more rules and issues with EU -- what do you think this will lead to in the future for Meta in the EU?
EU highway robbery.
I think historically Europeans always had the looting tendency, thus they always had colonies to loot from. It is just in current time the hypocrisy got busted so they are doing all this charade to get a cut of hard working capitalist and innovative tech companies.
No wonder why they haven’t asked for a cut from Google… They only ask from innovative tech companies… makes sense
And they wonder why big tech is in the usa
It’s because in the USA they can screw their enoloyees however they want while EU has rights protecting workers, and citizens overall, from those megacorporations that have no other motivation than infinite greed. So yeah no wonder why there’s no big tech in the USA. Also why would you have to deal with human rights if you can take a bunch of engineers from, for example, India, give them H1Bs, and watch them do literally everything just to keep that visa, including non-paid overtime, which makes US citizens have to play along and work equally hard or even harder to make a bunch over ultra rich people even richer. And the funniest part is that y’all genuinely believe that working hard makes you rich. Funny how the land of freedom became land of people with slave mentality and lack of any reflection on the situation they’re in 🦅🦅🦅
So yeah no wonder why there’s no big tech in the EU.*
Hey Pot! You read this one? https://www.theverge.com/2024/6/24/24184629/apple-dma-steering-infringement-ruling Sincerely, Kettle
Lol EU
There are 2 options: 1. Pay a subscription fee and don’t see any ads 2. Use the service for free but you get personalized ads EU wants to have the cake and eat it too.
They are asking for l us to ask users consemt to use data for personalized ads Seems like a fair ask
That’s what we currently do. We ask users to consent to use data for personalized ads, and if they say no, they can’t use the service. And also, we offer a non-personalized service with a monthly subscription. Free FB with non-personalized ads just won’t happen. We’d rather pull out of the EU.
This is effectively trying to put a price cap on social media as a product. People are homeless and social media is the thing the EU wants to put a price cap on 😂
I am a bit confused on this one since this was developed with the express purpose of meeting regulatory scrutiny under the DMA - so it doesn't make sense to me why there's an issue? It literally was built with tons of input from the regulators as well. Guess we will see but I'm a bit confused about it
Apparently, it’s not even about ads anymore. They want personalization on/off controls for whatever. Like ranking and recommendation, etc. I doubt there’s a single user who is asking for it.
Just classic corruption. They want a piece of the pie.
USA innovates, China replicates, EU regulates
Balaji👋
So... EU creates a new rule, meta adheres to it, now the EU is mad about how they adhered to their rule?
Eu is mad they have no big tech companies and needs to get a part of the profit somehow
I probably would be too
