Let's say you need to leave US, but do not want to liquidate/fire-sell your 401k/Investment accounts (to avoid huge tax etc.), but want to do it later (from outside US). My question(s) - How easy is it to work with companies like Fidelity, Vanguard etc. from outside US, to withdraw money, once you have left US, especially money in 401k, retirement accounts? Has anyone done this successfully, from outside US? Can they share what steps they took? Or if anyone currently in the process, can they share tips? I am guessing these companies will be hugely skeptical of account access from outside US (for valid security reasons) and may block access to your accounts, leaving you locked out of your own money. What's the workaround here ? Context: Job loss, unemployed since 4+ months, bills piling up rapidly in a HCOL area. Barely worked at Meta (under a year) to gather a stockpile to ride the unemployment years...
How would they know you moved back to India? You could be traveling? You can also nominate someone here in US?
they could flag non-US IP for US accounts, thus blocking account access - pretty standard account security mechanism even using VPN may not work, any new IP will block access , leading to 2FA , and i won't even have US phone access
Put the phone no you use for all those acct to google voice. Worked for all my accts in chase, schwab and robinhood Keep your apple id region to us to maintain access to those apps, and keep the device(laptop) to access the accounts since new device login can get dicey For physical address tho you might have to find a friend willing to help out
It is a valid concern. They have already gone rogue and blocked Russia from accessing their forex reserves. Anything is possible, theirs no rules. It's all make rules on the fly

It’s your money, why would it be an issue? Just need to keep your address up to date if you plan to permanently relocate. There may be tax considerations but you can still do this. Having a 401k and withdrawing it while living somewhere else is primarily a tax accounting problem, not an access problem.
