Can I write about shows here? I recently started re-watching the Dexter series. Hands down one of the best opening sequence in TV history. Plus the man is a superman. How does he find time to do a full time job, a girlfriend, a killer, maintains boat, etc. I am also having so many a-ha moments re-...Read more
Hiroshima Mon amour is like intolerably French yet is so brilliant that it totally rocks. Would seem like a parody of pretentious new wave cinema, only it does it completely. Practical magic was rad, really just a very strange and fun movie, covers everything you want.
Well it’s a classic for a reason, it 100% rocks. One crazy twist after another and then it pulls it all together. I made a short featuring a dead body and I wish I had seen this first.
Well finished my Schrader retrospective with the constant gardener and gotta say it’s a real come down from first reformed and the card counter. Sort of like a collection of his tics without any of the clarity or emotional logic of his late period.
So it’s a religious comedy…by Paul Schrader…with Skeet Ulrich as a stigmatist…he’s a lot of things but he’s not funny. Weird and unsuccessful movie.
Kinda like American Gigolo if it was about a drug dealer, I really enjoyed it, it had a rainy 80s ny vibe.
Really great, in its funny way I think this movie thinks it’s about moral degradation, but it’s really about a particularly disgusting style of male sexuality.
Awesome movie, what a weird story. Great soundtrack, has an interesting take that doesn’t demonize or flatter the insanity of the whole thing.
Just watched this, I found Connor O’Malley through I think you should leave. This is a short film he made and it’s pretty special. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yJlO5yTVH_8
on netflix, was entertaining, thought it was an interesting concept until i found out that it was based on a true story. clearly the ending differed in real life, so what happened?
Cool World is one of those interesting failures. Like the movie itself sucks, but man I love the idea of a noir/erotic thriller with an animated femme fatale. Too bad it doesn’t live up to its own concept and gets stuck in describing the sexual physics of toon land.
As I continue my stroll through Schraders filmography, I just finished “hardcore”. It’s a mess. It looks cool, and I love George c Scott, but it has a logey, messy structure and like doesn’t really get going until like, an hour in. It’s basically a neo-noir set in the smut world, but it’s only that ...Read more
Music is great in all series but I just could not bear the animal abuse this whole movie had. Also, I think Marvel's glorious days are over.
Going through the Paul Schrader movies on criterion and I love Schrader but both of these movies were very meh. Affliction never quite came together and Mishima relied on the audience having a fair amount of familiarity with mishimas work, and was still confusing.
It was terrible, boring and just like totally unable to handle the subject matter.
I don’t know how this show was not on my radar until now… I just started watching it and am hooked. I’m a big horror fan and this checks off all the boxes for me. Any other horror fans out there? What do you think of Evil?
Not a movie but I’ve been watching the show “killing it”, with Craig Robinson and it’s a shockingly brutal, ugly sitcom. Really unbelievable to me that it was made.
