I recently got a remote offer from HPE (Aruba Networks) (Base: $170k, TC: ~$200k). I will be moving to NC from Bay area and they are OK with it. I'm worried if the remote workers will be the ones to get laid off if there arises a need for it. Heard that HPE lays off periodically. Can someone throw some light on this? How does Aruba/HPE compare to Fidelity Investments? The dilemma is feeding on my neurons! :( Current TC: 155k #tc #tech #wlb #work
What level and role?
Software Engineer. Nothing other than that is mentioned. I'm worried more on taking a 'remote' role. Will I be on the line of fire? :D
Also remote is such a subjective thing and depends really on your leader and maybe a couple levels up. If tomorrow a new leader comes in and wants people local they you are in a tough spot. NC has quite a few tech companies who can pay around $150-160K base plus bonus and rsu if moving to NC is the main goal here
Yes, the goal is to move to NC (Lower COL compared to my current location - Bay Area, and the not so worse weather toođ ). I'm ok with not so much higher raises. But, I don't want to live with the fear of getting fired. I have heard that there are a lot of long timers at HPE. Also people at Aruba is nice too from what I've heard. Just job safety is the question here. :(
Lot of long timers but also lot of churn in the last 20 months. Iâve heard there is less structure for internal moves and manager could (i am just saying could) prevent moves or at least delay it if youâre working on important projects. At least in the cisco world it doesnt happen as often. Basically remote may work for you for the current role but what next? Youâd be in the market in a 2-3 years time frame. Might as well try local companies like cisco, red hat, ibm, sas, lenovo etc. and RTP COL is going up by the minute
Hpe lays off all the time.
What role is this?
Software Engineer. No level is mentioned other than that.
I let go of a role recently at $180K base and 10% bonus, some stock and sign on bonus. Iâve heard that raises are hard to come by (could be team to team) and you can see the stock history and decide if the stock is worth it. Iâd say unless if youâre desperate i think the pay bump is also not much right?
