The debate was painful to watch 😢
Started from 120k as a new grad and reached 500k 4 years ago. I have been chilling and coasting with 450-500k TC for the last 4 years. My situation right now: Pros: - decent pay with great WLB, 20-30 hr work weeks - remote 100% - work from anywhere same pay, great if I move to LCOL in future Cons: - career growth not so great in my team and company in general - getting bored - FOMO with AI startups, missing out on big IPO payouts Have interviews lined up with: 1. Netflix 2. OpenAI 3. Microsoft Wondering if I should interview for fun? Should I continue to chill or look for higher TC elsewhere and take a hit on WLB 31years Male
It’s obvious mate. You’ve got a unicorn, high TC, remote, and WLB.
Nice! How long it took to go from 120k to 500k TC
About 3-4 years. I moved two companies in that time span
That makes sense. Switching is the way to get salary bumps in 3 to 4 years. I thought you started at airbnb as a fresh grad and worked your way up from 120k to 500k in 3 to 4 years
blatant flex post but good for you op
You get enough. Now use your time to enjoy it like a retiree. What will change if your TC goes from 500K to 750K? You will have more money but less time.
I can afford a Porsche with the additional pay 😅. Retire sooner. My household NW is only around 2.2m
In that sense with more money you van food in Gold utensils as well. But at the end you will be eating food only. You drive Porsche or Nissan Verna, both cannot go faster than the speed limit. Rather enjoy the ride in BMW with the speed limit.
Interesting to know that Airbnb pays so well. When big banks and other employers pay less comparatively. Are you a SWE? What specialty?
SWE, no speciality. All engineers get paid around the same depending on seniority
Aren’t SWE’s with AI skills getting paid more?
Yeah join Microsoft that's a great idea. You will definitely get a ton more money and even better WLB. Do it!
Grind bro. These cushy, overpaid software engineering jobs are going away soon
Precisely. Why not make the most of them while they last? If you want to upskill you can in your free time.
31 YOE? You need to chill man
Corrected, its age not experience
Travel around the world and work remotely. Switch once you get bored. You might not get this opportunity again.
single or taken?
Married recently
@pinterest I am single with 600K TC
