In December I was laid off but managed to get myself another job (I have bills to pay) in a sh!t a$$ company, with a hope that it is an interim thing and I will find another job in the next 2-3 months. More than 6 months have past and I landed on nothing either the role gets cancelled, they want me to relocate to middle of nowhere Indiana, salaries are lower than the existing job, startup with all equity or I get on site and then get ghosted 🤦🏻♂️ Current company is really eating me out, extremely toxic people, manager is garbage (worst ever in the past 20 years of my life), business is breaking even every quarter… and everything looking like a lay off to be … I go through a lot of my mental health and it is impacting my personal relationship … No matter what I do, I can’t find an escape in this economy. I tried to pick up side hustles and teach part time but that’s like $4000 a semester … What should I do? TC 325k
Things will only get worse as AI pushes more layoffs. The only thing we can do is accept this and do our best to improve every day, because things will be much harder next year. Part of this is luck. Sometimes that perfect job will just hit your LinkedIn inbox and you will wonder how it happened. But your preparation for that has to be already done to get the offer.
A lot of AI hype is also dying as people see that AI use cases aren't really helping them in the real world. In our case, a basic summarisation and search is failing as the AI keeps hallucinating. This usually happens with all the new technologies. AI will definitely have a lot of impact, but it might take a while.
Don't think AI is failing, but the data shares necessary to make it powerful are difficult with enterprise data. Likely that we will have silo'd corporate AIs walled off from the outside which will hamper the overall capability IMHO
It could be worse. You could be unemployed 🤷♂️
"TC $325k" Oh you poor thing. Struggling with such a low wage, how do you survive. Buy some weed or something and deal with it goofball. You're making more than most people in the US.
Bro I spend 10k a month on mortgage and food (2 people) after taxes nothing is left … I used to make $600k 😭
Downsize your house asap
Lol with what you had wrote i was expecting 75k not 300 The grass is right outside sir. I’m gonna need you to go out there and touch it.
I sympathize with you op. All I can say is ride it out till the market improves, meanwhile improve your tech skills and try to make yourself indispensable
$325k in Indiana? And complaining? Just quit lol
If you make $325k annually, move but not your family. Rent a cheap studio and work there during the week. If you are barely making ends meet, then downsize your home. And stop complaining. For a $325k salary, if they ask you to pick up brown biscuits in the toilet, you do it with a smile.
what is TC without equity?
Don’t worry about it 😉
Hang in there. The job market is turning around slowly but surely. We are now hiring again.
Can confirm. I’m getting way more responses to applications than I was 3 or 4 months ago. Still lots of competition but at least it’s something.
