What is the appeal to NVIDIA?

I don't understand the appeal to working at NVIDIA. It seems to arise from the stock boost. But NVIDIA TC is low (if you want to rely on nvidia's stock increasing, you might as well join a company with higher TC, and then invest in nvidia stock) compared to FAANG (am I wrong?), and the work is seemingly no more interesting than other FAANG companies.

Looking back a few years it would have been a great call. Looking forward a few years....

Amazon svetsl Apr 17

I like what I am working on, full time remote option, no PIP culture, and the money is good. Restricted stock and 2 year lookback on ESPP, plenty of opportunities to make bank on volatility in the long run. There's a reason people are sticking around. If they were leaving, company would adjust RSUs higher to stem the flow.

I see thanks. Do you what a new hire offer would look like for PhD + 4YOE? If I went back to meta, I can go for IC5 and recurring TC is around 400-450k/yr assuming flat stock and first year TC is this + sign on. My understanding is I wouldn’t be able to get something close to this at nvidia.

NVIDIA VoteDem🗽 Apr 17

No idea. Apply and find out. What's the downside if you can always go to Meta?

Apparently they have a stock growth of 19000% in the last decade, so anyone who believed the vision of GPU’s are set for life!

Right from the point I was looking for colleges in electronics a decade ago, I got to know Nvidia is the better place to work with most friendliness to employees. I always wanted to work for Nvidia, and I got handed 3 rejections from them. Wcyd.

Amazon RandoNam Apr 17

Could someone elaborate on the 24 month look back for ESPP. How much can you buy? How is the price calculated?

NVIDIA VoteDem🗽 Apr 17

$25k per year IRS limit. Lower of previous lock price or current price is locked every 6 months for next 2 years of purchases.

NVIDIA cpp-pls Apr 17

Well you get it at 15% discount so its really $21.5K per year IRS limit.
