The team I matched to for DS is based in MTV but is slowly becoming more distributed with time. They’ll allow me to work out of any of the 3 SoCaL offices. If I choose SD I will still have to move to a new place but will not get the relocation. I lived in LA for 5 years, so I know the traffic is hell compared to the others, especially in the desirable Westside where the office is. Otherwise, are there any major considerations I should take into account when making this decision? Are any of these google offices better/worse than the others (e.g. does one of them not have a cafe or gym)? Will it be a major problem that some of these offices have very few or no other DS? Appreciate your insights! Edited for blind tax TC: $253k YoE: <1
253k for DS with 1 YOE? PhD?
Exactly. I worked as a consultant for many startups, research groups, etc. during my PhD, but on paper I have <1 year of full-time experience
Irvine is very nice
Been in SoCal all my life. Irvine: Super clean with good Asian food options and between LA,SD. Boring after a while with limited activities. Will find yourself outside of Irvine most of the time. SD: Beautiful place to live with great food, nightlife, activities, and cooler weather out of the 3. Getting insanely expensive. LA: Amazing food, nightlife, and activities. Insanely expensive to live in a good area, homelessness and depressing traffic 20 hours a day.
Thanks a lot for the info! This is really helpful.
San Diego is an amazing place to live.
